ABN Group Managing Director Dale Alcock has today applauded the McGowan Government’s move to increase building and construction industry apprentices through an enforced target on State Government contracts.
“As an industry, we need to step up and take responsibility for training our future workforce and I congratulate the McGowan Government for encouraging more local investment in WA apprentices,” Mr Alcock said.
“ABN Group has always recognised the need to make training apprentices a priority. The quality of our homes is dependent on access to quality tradespeople and we invest in training apprentices now, because they are the future of our business.”
The new policy will encourage local supply of tradespeople, through an industry target across State Government building, construction and maintenance contracts valued over $5 million (including GST), resulting from tenders released from April 1.
“ABN Group has been Australia’s largest private trainer of building and construction apprentices since establishing our registered organisation ABN Training in 2004,” Mr Alcock said.
“Over the past 15 years we’ve trained more than 1550 apprentices and we work hard to provide them with ongoing support, even after they have graduated.”
